We hope you will consider joining the Indianapolis Women’s Chorus! Auditions are held once a year. Information about auditioning and participation requirements are below.

Auditions are held once a year, usually in August, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Indianapolis, 615 W 43rd St.

If you are interested in auditioning, please schedule an individual audition time by completing the form below, or email

Our Artistic Director coordinates and hears auditions for incoming singers. Auditions are intended to be low-stress. They are really just a chance for us to get to know you and determine if you can match pitch. Also, we want to find the right section (soprano, alto, etc.) for you to sing in.

We will offer some familiar songs for you to choose from such as: America the Beautiful, Amazing Grace, Shenandoah, and Over the Rainbow. Our pianist will accompany you on one of these songs. You’ll only need to sing one verse. We’ll also do some simple scales and echoing so we can learn about your range and vocal skills. There is no music-reading (or sight reading) required.

Your audition should take about 10 minutes. You will be met by our friendly membership coordinators and asked to fill out a short audition form. Please let us know your availability and we’ll schedule a specific audition time for you.

If you are interested in auditioning, please complete the form below. If you are unable to attend the upcoming auditions, but are still interested in auditioning, please indicate that on the form, and we will work to schedule a different date for you.

Some stuff you may want to know about IWC:

WHO WE ARE. The chorus is a supportive and friendly group of inclusive women — we are young and old (18-60+), of many faiths and backgrounds, with a variety of sexual orientations and genders. Our mission is to embody musical excellence and the power of women and song to transform communities. We are hoping to grow by reaching out to many different communities within Indianapolis.

WHAT WE SING. We sing music that gives voice to the experiences of women and honors women’s lives. We sing EVERYTHING (easy to difficult): chants (ancient and modern), medieval music, religious music from many traditions, jazz, feminist/women’s movement music, spirituals, world music, and more. Our repertoire has included Rachmaninoff, Eccard, Brahms, Holst, and Gershwin plus women composers including Hildegard of Bingen, Francesca Caccini, Gwyneth Walker, Libby Larsen, Ysaye Barnwell and more. Music is woven together to create a moving and memorable experience for the audience.

HOW WE SING. Singers do not need to have prior choral experience in order to join IWC. We include absolute beginners, seasoned amateurs, and music professionals. Music reading is very helpful, but is not required. Much of our repertoire is learned by ear and taught by example. Many of our songs are performed from memory.

WHEN WE SING. We generally rehearse on Sunday evenings from August to June. We have regular potlucks and occasional additional rehearsals. We perform 2-3 regular concerts during the year and at a number of community events.

MEMBER REQUIREMENTS. Members are required to attend most rehearsals, purchase their performance wear, and pay an annual membership fee. Financial assistance is available.
