Awaken your ears and your heart with the moving Soul-Folk music of international singer, songwriter, and composer Lea Morris. This special concert will also feature a new spoken-word piece created on the “Awakening” theme by Manòn Voice, with performances by Indianapolis Women’s Chorus.
Lea Morris’ sound, which often draws comparisons to Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell, is a unique SoulFolk style that features insightful lyrics and multi-layered chants, combined with looped harmonies and vocal percussions. A multi-award nominee and winner, Lea has shared the stage with Odetta, Mavis Staples, and Dar Williams. Originally from Washington, DC, Lea is returning to her roots by composing multi-layered chants and grounding a community singing experience in Braunschweig, Germany, where she currently resides. Lea’s works for chorus are beloved favorites of community choirs around the world — including IWC! — and we are delighted to share a few of these pieces on the Awakening program.
Manòn Voice is a native of Indianapolis and is a multi-hyphenate-poet and spoken word artist, filmmaker, actor, hip-hop emcee, educator, and community builder. She currently serves as a HipHop Music Lecturer and Instructor at Butler University.

Come experience connection and solace, joy and healing as we share music from popular favorites, haunting melodies and invigorating chants. Through Wintering, we honor the wonderful mysteries of a season we can’t truly escape, but can learn to embrace — and even savor.
